Safety in our Schools
Student and staff safety is one of our top priorities in Lucia Mar. We continue to work to improve safety throughout the district. For instance, you may have noticed the improved fencing and additional cameras. Additionally, there are enhancements to our facilities related to safety that you may not be aware of, such as every classroom door equipped with a lock block. We also have School Resource Officers who have built relationships with the students on our campuses and offer additional support. Each school has a threat assessment team that works together to prevent violence and involves both assessment and intervention. But there are still other precautions you may not be aware of or have forgotten about.
Raptor
Raptor is a school visitor management system that eliminates uncertainty and helps schools know precisely who is on campus. By scanning their ID, each visitor’s information is screened against the sex offender registry and custom databases, including those with custody orders and banned visitor status. The system instantly alerts school officials if a visitor is flagged as a security risk. Visitor management systems automatically capture and store visitor data, enabling schools to create security-focused reports for analytical and investigative purposes.
ALICE Training
Our staff is trained by certified trainers in ALICE protocols and practice. This trauma-informed safety training provides students and staff with effective response options in the event of an active shooter situation. No single response fits all active shooter situations. However, making sure each individual knows his or her options for response and is prepared to react decisively can save valuable time and help minimize the loss of life.
Smart Social
Technology, popular apps, and social media trends change so quickly that it can leave parents feeling like they can’t keep up with their students. While there are many security programs parents can use, nothing is going to protect your students better than YOU. So we have partnered with Smart Social to help our parents keep their students safe online. These are demand based videos that share information and tips with parents. Securly
Students spend a lot of time online, and trying to keep them safe might seem like an impossible effort, but it’s not. A strong web filter is our first line of defense when it comes to protecting students online. Securly approaches student safety from every angle, across every platform, and identifies students who may be at risk of harming themselves or others. While providing around-the-clock activity monitoring, it shields students from digital dangers and distractions and, in doing so, ensures time spent online is protected and productive. A team of safety experts stands ready to respond to signs a student may be struggling—helping schools prevent incidents from ever happening.
We have added additional safety precautions on our buses. Buses are equipped with GPS monitors and cameras, and every student swipes their smart bus pass as they enter and leave the bus.

La Seguridad en Nuestras Escuelas
La seguridad de los estudiantes y empleados es nuestra principal prioridad en Lucia Mar. Seguimos trabajando para mejorar la seguridad en todo el distrito. Por ejemplo, tal vez haya notado que mejoramos los alambrados y cámaras escolares. Además, se han hecho mejorías en la seguridad de las instalaciones que tal vez usted no ha notado, la puerta de cada salón tiene una cerradura de bloqueo. Además, los ofiiciales de recursos escolares han establecido relaciones con los estudiantes en nuestras escuelas y ofrecen apoyo adicional. Cada escuela cuenta con un equipo para evaluar las amenazas el cual trabaja para prevenir la violencia lo cual implica evaluación e intervención. Pero existen otras precauciones que tal vez no conozcan o hayan olvidado.
Raptor
Raptor es un sistema para gestionar a los visitantes escolares el cual elimina la incertidumbre y ayuda a que las escuelas sepan exactamente quién está en la escuela. Al escanear la identificación del visitante, la información revisa el registro de ofensores sexuales y las bases de datos, incluso las personas que tienen órdenes de custodia o prohibiciones. El sistema avisa a los oficiales escolares si el visitante está marcado como un riesgo de seguridad. Los sistemas para gestionar a los visitante escolares capturan y guardan los datos de los visitantes, eso permite que se mantengan reportes para analizar e investigar.
Entrenamiento ALICE
Nuestro personal escolar está capacitado por instructores certificados en los protocolos y prácticas de ALICE. Este entrenamiento de seguridad brinda a los estudiantes y empleados las opciones de respuestas efectivas en casos de una situación de tirador activo. No existe una respuesta única que se adapte a todas las situaciones de tirador activo. Sin embargo, si las personas saben cuáles son sus opciones y están preparadas para reaccionar con decisión puede ahorrar tiempo valioso y ayudar a minimizar la pérdida de vidas.
Smart Social
La tecnología, las aplicaciones populares, y las tendencias de las redes sociales cambian tan rápido que pueden hacer que los padres sientan que no están manteniéndose al ritmo de sus hijos. Aunque existen muchos programas de seguridad que los padres pueden usar, nada va a proteger a sus estudiantes mejor que USTED. Por eso, nos hemos asociado con Smart Social para ayudar a los padres de familia a mantener seguros a sus estudiantes en línea. Securly
Los estudiantes pasan mucho tiempo en línea, y tratar de mantenerlos seguros puede parecer un esfuerzo imposible, pero no lo es. Un filtro web muy potente es nuestra primera línea de defensa cuando se trata de proteger a los estudiantes en línea. Securly protege la seguridad de los estudiantes por todos lados, en todas las plataformas, e identifica a estudiantes que pueden estar a riesgo de hacerse daño a sí mismos o a otros. Al mismo tiempo supervisa la actividad las 24 horas del día, protege a los estudiantes de los peligros y distracciones digitales, y de esa manera, garantiza que el tiempo que dedican en línea esté protegido y sea productivo. Un equipo de expertos está listo para responder los avisos cuando un estudiante puede estar teniendo dificultades, esto ayuda a evitar que ocurran incidentes en las escuelas.
Agregamos precauciones de seguridad adicionales en los autobuses escolares. Los autobuses estan equipados con monitores GPS y cámaras, y cada estudiante escanea su pase al subir y bajar del autobús.
Discipline
At Student Safety & Support, we handle student discipline issues, including suspensions, expulsions, alternative education referrals, and San Luis Obispo County Drug and Alcohol referrals. Additionally, our department is in charge of emergency preparedness, the district’s anti-bullying policies, and targeting student truancy through the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
